Kooralbyn lived up to the hype once again in 2022 even though no-one could catch the year’s runaway winner, Blake!!  Well played Blake, you had a great year of Missing Links golf – now fuck off, will you!?!?  🙂   Seriously, well done Blake, a well-deserved Anal (oops, Annual) Championship win (in that you gave it to all of us in the arse)!

But as expected, Kooralbyn saw some scintillating golf on Friday with Ryan taking out the December mug on 39 points!!  Ben C followed with 34 and Simon rounded out the top 3 finishing with 33 points, but well adrift of a laser-focussed and very serious Ryan who already had one hand on the Green Jacket.  We were fortunate to get a very short visit from Bryan, who gave an absolute ripping roast to all and sundry and vanished as quickly as he appeared, never to return for the weekend.

Saturday saw the leaders tee off last and the game was hot.  Ryan was still on fire shooting par after par and displaying great skills to finish with 37.  BUT, coming in hot was Troy who clearly was on a roll and playing some excellent golf to score his ass off finishing with a 42!!  Blake came home stoong with a 34 and Simon on 31, but none could catch Ryan to take the Green Jacket.  Standing for the jacket – Ryan (76), Troy (74), Blake/Simon (64 each).  Nice work Ryan.

We also had a super-hot guest competition which, for the first time, had a prestigous prize for which the guests would vie – the Guest Vest!!  A healthy field of 5 guests, Gav, Buschy, Gaz, Wade & Pete (the Cereal Killer).  It’s fair to say there was a good deal of inconsistency in the guest comp and even a near-death experience as a bonus (let’s just say that Gav was not left in any doubt as to how Pete got his nickname!!!).  Prevailing over the 2 days for the Guest Vest was Gav, with an aggregate of 56, 3 ahead of Buschy on 53, followed by Gaz on 50, Wade on 49 and Pete on 37.

It’s fair to say that one of the bigger disappointments of the weekend was the purchasing of mid-strength beers for funnels by our illustrious President and Treasurer, Michael Saunders.  I think we were all wondering why we were not feeling the effects of the countless funnels served up.  Thanks to Buschy for donating some of his 500ml Asahis as funnel penalties to Mike and a few others after that!!

As far as the final standings go, there were some interesting moves in the final mug.  Ryan jumped to a 2nd position finish, in front of EJ in 3rd with Mike and Simon finishing equal on Mug points.  Although, since Simon’s average stableford score was .3 higher than Mike’s over the same number of mugs, the Webmaster has deemed Simon to have taken 4th and Mike 5th – but really, who gives a shit?!  🙂  Check out below for all of the results.

As is usual, a great time was had by all and as an added bonus, it looks like we fooled a couple of more blokes into joining the club – We look forward to seeing Gav and John (absent, unfortunately) next year as regular ML members.

The next mug WAS at @Murwillumbah on January 22 @7.40 QLD time.
